The Clubs C Team won the East Beds League Champions Cup, but the clubs county league side lost to Buntingford in the County League semi-final at Garston BC.
It was a similiar scenario in the Letchworth & District finals where Peter Roseblade lost the singles final but with Martin Roberts won the pairs final. The midweek team lost to Henlow 79-66 but beat Shephalbury 93-50. The final weekend match against Welwyn GC, , resulted in a 111-91 loss.

Peter Roseblade will represent the club at the Letchworth & District finals day next Saturday in Singles final, he will be joined in the Pairs final by Martin Roberts. Good luck Lads.
The club hosted a touring side from Gravesend on Monday for a match of 6 mixed rinks. Obviously the journey had taken its toll as Baldock won on all six rinks for a total score of 143 shots to 76, Baldock’s top rink being Brian Leadley, Malcolm Bartlett, Roy Bacon and Duncan Reeves. Later in the week the midweek team played two and lost two, against St Ippolytts by 64 shots to 58 and against Letchworth GC by 62 shots to 72.
Only one weekend match because of the club triples and that was away at Flitwick and resulted in a resounding victory by four rinks to one and a total score of 111 shots to 67. Baldock’s top rink was Derek Slaney, Graham Woods, Rose Castle and Dave Turner.
This weekend sees the final friendly match and the club finals.

Baldock Men Win the County North Division League
On Sunday morning the Baldock men played in the Hertfordshire County North Division League Final against local rivals Whitethorn Bowls Club. Play started at 10am on a brite sunny morning. Within the first five ends Baldock has a small overal lead with Brian Todd's rink leading by ten shots, however Mike Parsons ring were six shots down. Over the course of the next ten ends baldock incleased their lead, with Brian Todd's rink, twelve shots up and Mike Parsons rink taking the lead for the first time by one shot. Over the final six ends both the Baldock rinks won and lost ends with Brian Todd's rink finishing at 22-17, five shots up. This left Mike Parsons rink at 19 ends down 17-22, leaving the match drawn overall. With two ends to play Mike found his rink down by three shots possibly four on 20th end. He had two woods to play, with his first he managed to draw shot which won the end. The last end was also won by one shot. The final score was 41-39. Baldock Rink 1, Roger Davis, Steve Budge, Joe Morley, Brian Tood. Baldock Rink 2, Bill Baxter, Rob Demster, Michael Wintrip, Mike Parsons.
At the same time the East Beds League B team lost by 4 shots to Potton in the semi-final of the knockout cup. However, the C team have reached the final of the Champions Cup.
Having lost to Potton on Saturday morning the club returned on Sunday for a friendly match and extracted a measure of revenge beating Potton on 4 of the 5 triples with a total score of 99 shots to 75, Baldock’s top triple being Derek Slaney, Rose Varney and John Carter.
Earlier in the week the midweek team beat Three Horseshoes by 55 shots to 52 but had their other match against Riverain rained off.

ROSE IS COUNTY CHAMPION
In a week of successes for the club Rose Varney set the pace when she won the Hertfordshire Singles Championship for unbadged players at Welwyn Garden City. In the semi-final she won 21-9 and followed this up with an equally convincing win in the final.
Her success was followed by Baldock Junior Devon Cooper who won the North Herts Ladies Hedgehog singles final. Devon played Ann Waugh of Three Horseshoes Bowls Club, the winning score was 21-16. Sue Bard-Bodek and Shirley Page were unable to retain the North Ladies Pairs championship this year as they lost by 2 shots to A. Welch and A. Weaver from Riverain Bowls Club
Not to be outdone the Baldock man played in the County North Division League Semi-Finals at Holwell on Sunday morning against St Ippolytts Bowls Club. Baldock won on both of the two rinks, 55 shots to 23 shots. They will now meet Whitethorm Bowls Club in the final on the Sunday 31st August at Baldock Town BC 10am.
The midweek team had mixed fortunes losing to Willian by 3 shots but beating Buntingford convincingly by 104 shots to 63.
In the East Beds League the A team secured their place in Division 3 on shot difference, the B team missed promotion on shot difference and the C team secured promotion for the second successive year. The B team are in the semi-final of the knockout cup while the C team have reached the same stage in the Champions Cup.
Both weekend matches were against Luton clubs. On Saturday Baldock hosted Luton West End and shared the spoils each side winning on two triples. However Baldock secured the win by 67 shots to 53, the top triple being Graham Wells, Rose Varney and Rob Dempster. On Sunday the club travelled to Co-op Luton and won on 3 of the 4 triples by 77 shots to 62, the top triple being Graham Wells (again),Val Bingley and Phil Riley.

BALDOCK WIN CAIRNS CUP
Baldock won the Letchworth & District Cairns Cup beating Whitethorn, who were last year’s finalists, on all four triples for a total score of 78 shots to 47. Baldock has also qualified for the County North Division league semi-finals where they will meet St Ippolytts.
The midweek teams fared less well losing to Howell by 62 shots to 97 and to Biggleswade by 75 shots to 78.
On Saturday the club travelled to North Mymms where, in difficult circumstances they won the match fairly comfortably.
In the ladies North Herts competitions Sue Bard-Bodek and Shirley Page reached the final of the pairs.

Devon Cooper did the club proud as she reached the last 16 of the National Under 18 singles losing narrowly to the eventual winner. Younger brother Max lost in the first round but both will have got considerable experience from playing at Leamington.
Elsewhere the club beat Howell by 23 shots to reach the final of the Letchworth & District Cairns Cup and on Saturday morning the B team beat Biggleswade A team to reach the semi-final of the East Beds League knockout cup.
The midweek team had two wins against Willian on Tuesday by 52 shots to 51 and on Thursday against Norton by 73 shots to 64
Saturday’s match against Whitethorn produced a comfortable win by 120 shots to 73, the top rink being Rose Varney, Phil Page, Graham Woods and David Davies. Sunday’s match against Great Barford was a little tighter but Baldock ran out winners by 92 shots to 65, the top triple being Graham Wells, Rose Castle and Alan Cross.

Baldock lost in the semi- final of the County Knockout cup to the eventual winners Harpenden. They won on Mike Parsons rink but lost on the other two.
The midweek team had mixed results losing against Royston by 71 shots to 56 but beating Sandy Town by 78 shots to 73.
At the weekend Baldock beat Havers Park by 89 shots to 48, the top triple being Brian Leadley, Mike Varney and Alan Cross.
With the club playing in the County Cup a weakened side visited Stotfold for the Maurice Dear trophy and lost by 53 shots to 91. The only winning triple was Jason Smith, Graham Cross and Anne Graves.

Val Bingley and Jan Turner failed in their quest to win the County Pairs but will still represent the County in the National Finals.
Elsewhere the news was better. The men won their last County League match against Howard Garden winning on both rinks which should be enough to qualify for the semi-finals. The men also won their Cairns Cup match against Riverain and will now meet Holwell for a place in the final.
The weekend saw the club visit Beech Hill Luton and win on two rinks, draw on one and lose the other for a total score of 72 shots to 59. Baldock’s top rink was John Tait, Guest player, Phil Page and Rob Dempster. Sunday’ match was a home game against Stevenage Town where Baldock won on all four rinks.

On Monday the men played in the area final of the Eversley beating Aston BC by so many shots that the umpire lost count. They will now play Harpenden in the semi-final.
In the Men’s County League against Howard BC, the team managed another big win, 58-30 shots. Mike Wintrip rink scored 31-9 and Mike Parsons rink score 27-21. With all there games played, they are now in line to secure their place in the area finals.
The Ladies also won their County League against Whitehorn BC.
In the Letchworth & District Cairns Cup on Friday evening the men beat Riverain BC convincingly.
Val Bingley and Jan Turner won their county pairs semi-final and play the final at 3.30 this Sunday at Bishops Stortford and the go o0n to represent Hertfordshire at Leamington.
Shirley Page has qualified for Leamington in the Over 55 singles.

Baldock were well represented at the Hertfordshire County Semi-finals this week and trying to book the place that the National Championships at Royal Leamington Spa.
Congratulations to Jan Turner and Val Bingley who played in the Ladies Pair's beating Sue and Becky Maynard, convincingly. They are now looking forward to the final on 27th July at Bishops Stortford BC and National Championships at Royal Leamington Spa.
Brian Todd played in the Singles Semi-final at Hatfield on Thursday evening, but just lost 19-20 to Bradley Coles.
Shirley Page book a place at the National Championships.
Shirley won her Over 55 Senior Ladies Singles against Sue Moody at Stevenage Town BC this week to book her record backing 32nd consecutive visit to the National Championships.
In the Men’s County League against Norton BC, the team managed their biggest win in the league this year , winning 79-20, Mike Wintrip rink score 40-9 and Mike Parsons rink score 39-11. They are now in a good place going into their last match next week, to secure their place in the area finals.
The mid-week match against Stotfold BC was a win for Baldock 70-59 although they were losing at the half way point. The Barton Le Clay match was a narrow win to Baldock
On Saturday evening the Senior Mixed Team plays in the National Tony Allcock Trophy area final against Bigglewade Towm BC.

On Saturday Baldock men had a disappointing result against Harpenden in the National Two Fours competition. They lost on one rink heavily and won by 2 shots on the other link.
Sunday was another day, after Saturday’s disappointing result, the Senior Mixed Team again visited Harpenden in the National Tony Allcock Trophy. The game was very tight throughout the match with both sides playing well. After 4 ends of play Baldock were 6 shots down, by the 6th end they were only on shot down overall.
On the 10th end the Baldock rinks picked up a total of 7 shots, putting them in the lead for the first time by three shots. By the 13 th end the overall score was 21 each.
Over the next 5 ends it was quite even and at the 18 th end both teams were on 29 shots. On the 20 th end Baldock were down 33 to 34 shots with 1 end to play. Mike Parsons rink picked up 4 shots on their last end, finishing 24-17 shots up which meant Baldock were 3 shots up 37 to 34 overall.
Then the drama began. Brain Todd’s rink were on their last end 13 to 17 shots down, holding 5 shots for a win, when Harpenden Skip Tony Radford with his last bowl fired and killed the end as the jack made it way off the rink. On the replayed end, Brain Todd’s rink was holding at least two shots when Tony Radford was forced to fire again, he managed to once more kill the end as the jack travelled off the rink again. The end was again replayed, but this time the Baldock rink picked up 1 shot which meant they were only 14 to 17 shots down giving Baldock an overall win 38 to 34 shots.

Baldock Defeat National Champions
With one of their best results for many years Baldock men beat the 2012 National Champions in the Bowls England 2 Rink competition. Not only did they win, they won convincingly with neither Baldock rink required to play the last end. Mike Parsons' rink beat Martin Coles' rink by 11 shots and Ian Grieg’s rink beat Jerry Rumball's rink by 5 Shots. Baldock now play in the final of the Hertfordshire section.
There was further good news on Friday when Baldock men beat Datchworth in the Letchworth & District Cairns Cup mainly due to a tremendous win by Joe Moorley's Triple. At Baldock Brian Todd won by 3 shots but Mike Parsons lost by 7. At Datchworth John Carter lost by 1 and Joe Moorley won by 17.
The midweek team had a mixed result beating Whitethorn by 80 shots to 50 but losing to Harpenden by 54 shots to 63.
Saturday's match at Sandy Town was rained off but, despite the weather, Baldock hosted Buntingford on Sunday in a match of 5 Rinks. Baldock won on 3 rinks for a final score of 94 shots to 78. Top rink was Doug Nicholls, Derek Slaney, Brian Griffiths and Shirley Page.
The East Beds League teams had a mixed week. The A team lost their cup match and had their league match rained off. Both the B and C teams won both their league and cup matches.

Another busy and, in the main, successful week for the Baldock Club. It got off to a mixed start with losses for the A and B teams in the East Beds League but another win for the C team keeping them top of the league.
The midweek team continued their good run with two wins, firstly by 86 to 52 shots over Norton and then by 79 shots to 52 over Sandy Town.
On Friday Baldock entertained Holwell in the County knockout cup and won on the rinks of Mike Wintrip and Mike Parsons with a one shot defeat for Brian Todd winning the match by 73 shots to 50.
There was only one match at the weekend when Baldock entertained Fairfield and won on all 5 triples, the total score being 118 to 62. Baldock’s top triple was Diana Pearce, Colin Smith and Rob Dempster who managed a Hot Shot 9 count in their 26 to 11 win.
In the County pairs there were wins for Brian Todd, Steve Budge, Jan Turner, Mina Reid and Rose Castle.
However, the week finished on a high note when the club beat Herts Watford in the Tony Alcock trophy for 2 Over 60 Mixed Rinks with ends to spare. Mike Parsons won by 23 shots to 7 and Brian Todd by 29 shots to 10.

A very quiet week for the Baldock Club. Only one midweek fixture, against Fairfield. Unfortunately one of the Fairfield players failed to arrive so the match was played as 3 triples and one pairs. Baldock won the triples by 45 shots to 40 but lost the pairs by 20 shots to 11.
Only one fixture at the weekend as Dunstable Kingsbury were unable to raise a team. The match against Potton on Sunday went completely in Baldock’s favour winning on all 4 rinks for a total score of 85 shots to 51. Baldock’s top triple was Graham Wells, Rob Dempster and Tony Castle.
The East Beds teams continue to do well although the B team lost to Henlow who now take over at the top of the table. The C team are top of their league and the A team have consolidated their mid-table position.

There was disappointment for both the men’s and ladies triples as they both lost in the semi-finals of the county competitions. There was better news in other County and National Competitions.
In the Men’s National Top Club competition Baldock beat Holwell by winning the 2 wood singles, pairs and fours to win the match by 3 disciplines to 2. In the Tony Alcock Trophy for 2 mixed over 60 rinks Baldock beat Welwyn Garden City on both rinks but by very narrow margins, one shot on Mike Parson’s rink and 5 on Brian Todd’s.
Further success came in the Men’s National 2 Fours competition where Baldock beat Bovingdon despite Ian Greig’s rink losing by one shot as Mike Parson’s rink won by an impressive 16 shots.
The midweek team had a mixed time losing to Stevenage by 64 shots to 71 and then beating Royston by 76 shots to 53.
The weekend saw two away matches firstly at St Neots where the home team won by 4 shots and on Sunday a weakened team because of the National commitments lost by 25 shots to Whitethorn.

A busy week for the Baldock club. Although the midweek match against Welwyn GC was cancelled Baldock entertained North Yorkshire tourists in a 5 rink mixed match on Wednesday and provided the first defeat for the tourists. Baldock won on 3 rinks, drew one and lost one for a total score of 105 shots to 84.
On Friday the men progressed in the County knockout cup beating 3 Horseshoes by 75 shots to 44, winning on 2 rinks and losing on one.
On Saturday the club entertained Harpenden but lost the match by 98 shots to 94. Baldock’s top rink was Marion Barker, Doug Nicholls, John Russell and Phil Riley with one other rink winning and one drawing.
Sunday afternoon saw another home match, this time against Royston. Saturday’s result was reversed with Baldock winning on 5 of the 6 rinks for a total of 137 shots to 86, the top rink being Doreen Blowey, Graham Wells, Graham Woods and Tony Castle.
Earlier on Sunday the ladies bowed out of the National Top Club losing to Riverain. The disciplines were shared at 2 each but Riverain won on shot difference.
A first for the club was achieved on Saturday when 4 men and 4 ladies represented Hertfordshire in the top National events, the Middleton Cup and the Johns Trophy. Amongst the ladies were 2 making their debut at this level, Wendy Goodyear and junior Devon Cooper.

Probably a first for the club – a double four! 4 men in the Middleton Cup team and 4 ladies in the John’s Trophy team. Congratulations to Steve Budge, Joe Moorley, Mike Parsons and Brian Todd and to Sue Bard-Bodek, Devon Cooper, Wendy Goodyear and Shirley Page on their selections. Double congratulations to Brian, Devon and Wendy on their first selection. Yesterday the ladies won but the men lost.
Progress for the ladies in the top club against Stevenage and, as I write this, they are playing Riverain in the next round.
The men have won two rounds of the Eversleigh Trophy. Next round is home to either Holwell or Whitethorn.
Gill Quirke continues to make progress, albeit slowly. She has shown a level of understanding and has taken some liquid food. She is still very tired. Family request no visitors yet. There may be better news this week when her 14 day examination is due. I will keep you up to date. Meanwhile I am sure that we all wish her a speedy and full recovery.

The club got off to a flying start in the National Top Club competition against Royston who had beaten them in the County equivalent competition. After 10 ends Baldock were totally in control in 4 of the 5 disciplines and the domination continued with Peter Roseblade winning the singles by 10 shots, the pairs winning by 2 shots, the triples by 8 and the fours by 4. The only loss was in the 2 wood singles which went right down to the wire being level with one end to play.
Further success came in the National 2-Fours where the club beat Bushey quite comfortably.
The ladies were not to be outdone beating Stevenage Town in the Top Club. A loss in the singles was more than compensated with narrow wins in the pairs, triples and fours.
Saturday saw a home friendly fixture against local rivals Hitchin Town where the visitors came out on top winning by 84 shots to 76. Baldock’s top rink was Jayne Saunders, Caroline Cooper, Dave Davies and Phil Riley. On Sunday the club had another home fixture, this time a 6 rink match against Ware, the home side winning on 5 of the 6 rinks for a total score of 165 shots to 97. Baldock’s top rink was Anne Haywood, Derek Slaney, Graham Woods and John Carter.
The midweek team played Howard Garden and won by 78 shots to 63, their other match being abandoned due to a Baldock bowler being taken ill.

The midweek team had mixed fortunes this week. After a convincing win over Whitethorn by 72 shots to 63 they came a cropper against St Ippollyts losing by 83 shots to 46.
Better fortune for the men’s team in the County knockout cup for the Eversleigh Trophy on Friday evening when they had a convincing win over Stevenage Town by 79 shots to 37 to move into the 2 nd round and play Three Horseshoes.
The weekend matches saw two good wins. Firstly on Saturday played away at Sandy Conservatives and won by 92 shots to 63, the top rink being Marion Barker, Alan Cross, Alan Russell and Rob Dempster. Sunday the club hosted Standon & Puckeridge and won on all 4 triples with a total score of 97 shots to 38, the top triple being Colin Smith, Doug Nicholls and Gwen Page.

The midweek triples team had an excellent week winning both their matches.
On Tuesday they played Letchworth Garden City at Baldock and won by 87 shots to 60.
The Thursday match was marred by rain but was never the less completed with a 80 shots to 75 win over Stotfold.
Friday saw the club’s B team in action in the first round of the National 2 Fours against Harpenden. Despite a strong comeback they were unable to reduce the early deficit and ended up losing by 3 shots on one rink and drawing on the other.
Saturday saw the team visit St Albans at Clarence Park and record another win, by 10 shots, winning on 2 rinks and losing on the other 2 81-71. Baldock’s top rink was Brian Griffiths, Colin Smith, Jan Turner and Mike Parsons.
On 5th May Bank Holiday Monday, is the traditional Open Day as part of the Baldock Festival with the green open for all comers from 12pm,
to try their hand at the sport and enjoy the friendship of the club.
First match of the summer season was the annual President v Captain match played on Saturday 19th April.
The second match was a friendly is against Datchworth BC on Sunday 20th April which we won on all rinks.
The Baldock Green opened on 15h April 14.00.
