Badock Achieve Notable Treble
Baldock achieved a notable treble in the East Beds League when all three teams secured promotion from their respective leagues. The A team were given their game by Sandy Conservatives who could not avoid being relegated. The B team beat Biggleswade St Andrews who were third to secure second spot whilst the C team continued their successful run with a convincing win over Langford to win their league.
The successful trend continued on Sunday morning when Riverain were the victims in the County North Division League semi-final, Baldock winning by 45 shots to 32, and they will now meet Whitethorn in the Divisional final next Sunday.
The ladies could not match this performance and could only manage one runners-up spot in the North Herts Ladies finals which were played at Baldock.
Both weekend fixtures were away in Luton. The match against Luton West End on Saturday resulted in a clean sweep by Baldock winning by 93 shots to 61, the top triple being Doug Nicholls, Ken Starkey and Dave Turner.
It was a complete reversal on Sunday at Luton Co-op where all 5 triples lost, the overall score being 63 to 93. Only the triple of Diane Pearce, Brian Leadley and Graham Albone came close to the opposition, losing by one shot.

Steve Hertfordshire County Singles Champion 2015
Steve Budge became the first Baldock member to win the Hertfordshire County Singles Championship since Ernie Barker in 1967, at Bishops Stortford Bowls Club. The match was played in challenging conditions, with heavy rain and at times strong winds. His opponent was Bryn Evans of Welwyn Garden City Bowls Club. Steve played himself into 20-11 lead only to lose the next few ends until the score reached 20-19, when he finally scored the one shot he needed to become champion. Steve will now go to represent Hertfordshire in the National Singles finals at Royal Leamington Spa on 26th August. We wish Steve all the very best .
Also Devon Copper became Hertfordshire ladies Junior singles champion after beating Rachel Tremlett of Royston 21-14. Deven will play iepresent Hertfordshire in the National Ladies Junior singles finals at Royal Leamington Spa on 1st August.. We wish Devon all the very best.. There was further success for Baldock when Val Bingley qualified for the National Finals in the Over 55 Ladies Singles and will also play at Royal Leamington Spa on the 8th August we wish Val all the very best as well.
In the East Beds League there were wins for the B and C teams but the A team lost. All three teams remain in the top half.
The Cairns Cup match on Friday was called off due to the appalling weather conditions which had relented by Saturday, when Luton Beech Hill were the visitors. Baldock won on 3 of the 4 rinks with a total score of 90 shots to 55, Baldock’s top rink being Phil Page, Graham Wells, Doug Nicholls and Mike Parsons.

STEVE BUDGE IN NATIONAL FINALS
Steve Budge has reached the final stages of the National Singles by beating Alan Hutchinson of Bishops Stortford in the County semi-final and will now represent Hertfordshire at Leamington Spa. He will be joined in the National finals by team mate Joe Moorley. The two of them are members of the 2 rink Balcombe Trophy who will play Kent in the National semi-final.
Elsewhere Baldock maintained their thrust in the County League by beating Norton on both rinks and should now qualify for the Divisional play-offs.
In the East Beds League there were wins for the C team, who remain top of their division , and the B team whilst the A team drew.
On Saturday Baldock welcomed Henlow Park and won the match by 81 shots to 71 with 3 winning rinks the best of which was Brian Leadley, Phil Page and Graham Albone.
On Sunday the club made the trip to Great Barford who were celebrating their 75th Anniversary. The match finished with both teams having two winning rinks but Baldock just edged the result by 4 shots, the top rink being Doreen Blowey, Graham Wells, Colin Smith and Graham Woods.

Overall not a bad week for the Baldock club. On Monday they faced Aston in the County League and won by 4 points to 2. Another County League match on Wednesday, away at Stevenage Town, saw the same score which leaves Baldock second in the league. The ladies did not fare as well losing their match at Stevenage.
In the East Beds League the B team completed a double over the C team whilst the A team had a comfortable win.
On Saturday the club travelled to Welwyn & District who were celebrating their 50th anniversary. Baldock took no pity on the celebrations and won on all four rinks for a total score of 106 shots to 50. The top rink was Colin Smith, Mary Gibbons, Roger Davies and Dave Turner.
Sunday saw a 6 rink home match against Biggleswade Town. The home team prevailed with wins on 5 of the 6 rinks for a total score of 142 shots to 108. Baldock’s top rink was Graham Wells, Ken Starkey, Dave Davies and Mike Parsons.

Val Bingley has reached the area final of the National Senior singles and is now one win away from the finals at Leamington.
The men’s county league team did not fare as well in their match at Whitethorn losing narrowly on both rinks whilst the ladies managed a draw in their match.
At the weekend Baldock entertained Biggleswade St Andrews on Saturday and won on all four rinks for a total score of 113 shots to 56. Baldock’s top rink was Doug Nicholls, Graham Wells, John Russell and Dave Turner.
Sunday’s match was again at home against Bishops Stortford with the result again going in Baldock’s favour. Not a clean sweep this time but a win by three rinks to one and an overall score of 97 shots to 61. The top rink was Diana Pearce, President Colin Smith, John Russell and Captain John Carter

The week started well in the East Beds League with wins for the A and C teams but defeat for the B team.
The midweek team beat Whitethorn at home and then drew with Harpenden on Thursday.
The weekend matches proved to be more successful. On Saturday Baldock beat Sandy Town at home winning on all 6 triples for a total score of 158 shots to 51. Baldock’s top triple was Brian Leadley, Roger Davies and Mike Wintrip.
Sunday’s match was away at Buntingford, again over 6 triples, with Baldock winning on 5 and losing just 1. The overall score was 131 shots to 85 with the top triple being Doug Nicholls, Jan Turner and John Carter.

Joe Moorley and Steve Budge from the Baldock Club were part of the two rink county team in the Balcomb Trophy who beat Bedfordshire and then Cambridgeshire to reach the National semi-finals at Leamington Spa in August.
Elsewhere Baldock beat Royston in the County League by 4 points to 2 but lost to Rosedale by 3 matches to 2 in the National Top Club.
The East Beds League teams had mixed fortunes with the A team losing but both the B and C teams won.
On Saturday Baldock visited Fairfield in a 5 triples match and won on all 5 rinks for a total score of 102 shots to 59. Baldock’s top triple was Warwick Brotherton, Graham Cross and Phil Riley.

Another mixed week for the Baldock club. After an all-round victory against Letchworth Conservatives where the 2 rink men’s match finished 54 shots to 25 and the one ladies rink won by 40 shots to 6 came the disappointment of losing to Royston in the County knockout cup.
Peter Roseblade’s rink won by 10 shots but the other 2 rinks failed to capitalise and Baldock ended up losing by 14 shots overall.
A mixed week in the East Beds League where the A and C teams won fairly comfortably but the B team slumped to another loss.
The weekend matches were again a mixture. On Saturday Baldock lost to Dunstable Kingsbury by 31 shots with one rink drawing and the other 3 all losing. Sunday saw a much better result in a 5 triples match at Potton. 3 rinks won, one drew and one lost for an overall result of 103 shots to 78.

The week started off reasonably well with wins for the A and C teams in the East Beds League whilst the B team lost at Flitwick.
Tuesday evening saw a friendly 4 triples match at Holwell which saw Baldock win on all 4 rinks for a total score of 90 shots to 49.
The midweek team had mixed fortunes beating Stevenage Town by 67 shots to 60 but losing to Royston by 81 shots to 99.
Saturday started with a 10am start for the men in the National Top Club clash with local club Riverain, which was won 3 - 2. The afternoon match against St Neots was called off due to the visitors not being able to field a team. Sunday morning saw the remaining team in the Tony Allcock Trophy lose to Biggleswade Town by 8 shots, winning on one rink and losing on the other.
Sunday afternoon’s match was against local rivals Whitethorn. The result was comprehensive with Baldock winning on all 5 rinks for a total score of 122 shots to 80, Baldock’s top rink being Warwick Brotherton, Tony Snowball, Mike Varney and Dave Turner.

The weekend started well with a convincing win over Three Horseshoes in the County Knockout Cup on Friday evening, the team winning on all 3 rinks and they will now meet Royston in the divisional semi-final.
Royston’s top team proved too strong for Baldock’s second string in the National 2 Fours on Saturday morning winning by 2 shots on one rink and 3 shots on the other.
Saturday afternoon saw the club visit Harpenden in a 5 rink match. Baldock won on 4 of the rinks and drew on the other for a total score of 111 shots to 85. Baldock’s top rink was Mike Varney, Mary Gibbons, Spencer Deane and Rob Dempster.
Sunday afternoon saw another contest against Royston, this time in a friendly. Revenge is sweet and Baldock won on 4 of the 6 rinks to reverse Saturday’s result. The total score was 129 shots to Baldock and 79 to Royston. Baldock’s top rink was Mike Varney, Diane Pearce, Brian Griffiths and Dave Turner.
The midweek team only had one match this week and managed to beat Welwyn Garden City by 78 shots to 66.
