End of Season News 18th September 2016
On Saturday 17th September the Letchworth & District finals took place at Datchworth Bowls Club and Baldock had several finalists. Joe Morley played Brian Todd in the singles in a very close game with Brian Todd winning the Singles title. Earlier in the day Joe and Brian along with Phil Riley and skip Mike Parsons retained the Fours title in a close game against a Royston rink. Also in the morning Baldock Triple Dave Hoare, Martin Brackley and Peter Roseblade lost to a Royston Triple. The day also gave the club the Pairs Winners in Paul Haskins and Jamie Claydon.
County Club league Final at Garston BC on the Sunday, was not a good day for the Baldock men as they lost by three shots to Bishop Stortford in the semi-final. They went on to win the title by beating Welwyn Garden City.

In the North Herts Ladies Finals the Baldock ladies win the Pairs - Devon Cooper & Mina Reid, all other finalists were runners-up. Fours - Wendy Goodyear,   Rose Castle, Sue Bard-Bodek, Shirley Page,  Challenge Shield - Caroline Cooper. Triples - Doreen Blowey, Gwen Page, Diana Peare. Pairs - Mary Gibbons & Linda Alborn
 
Club News 11th September 2016
The weather for the Baldock Finals was dull and wet but that did not spoil the excellent bowls matches on display. Joe Moorley retained his singles championship beating Peter Roseblade and also won the men’s sets, again beating Peter Roseblade. Jamie Claydon won the singles handicap beating Joe Moorley and also the Butler cup. Peter Roseblade had his share of success winning the 2 wood singles against Jamie Claydon and the pairs with Warwick Brotherton beating Kevin Lammacrafft and Martin Brackley.

The ladies had a two time winner when young Devon Cooper beat Sue bard-Bodek to win the championship and Shirley Page to win the 2 woods. In the ladies handicap Jayne Saunders beat Caroline Cooper.

In the men’s pairs Malcolm Bartlett and Steve Budge beat Graham Cross and Brian Todd and the open triples was won by Colin Smith, Phil Page and Dave Turner beating Brian Leadley, Doug Nicholls and Rob Dempster.

Club News  5th September 2016
On Sunday morning, Baldock’s successful season continued with securing the Manning Cup, the prize for winning the County North Division league. They did so by beating St Ippolytts by 52 shots to 32 in the final at Riverain and will now go on to play the East winners for a place in the County Final at Garston BC on the Sunday18th September.

In the weekend friendly matches the Saturday match against Dunstable Kingsbury was abandoned after 10 ends due to heavy rain with the score 50 to 19 in Baldock’s favour. This was a shame as this was the last match between the clubs as Kingsbury are  folding at the end of the season.

 On Sunday aaternoon Baldock travelled to Potton and came away with a narrow win by 81 shots to 76, Baldock’s top triple being Warwick Bratherton, Rose Varney and Graham Woods

Club News 29th August 2016
This week was Letchworth & District semi-finals for the Fours, Triples & Singles at Holwell BC. On Thursday evening in the fours Joe Morley, Phil Riley, Brian Todd & Mike Parsons won through in a very closely fought match 21-16 against a follow Baldock team, Roger Davies, Dave Hoare, Martin Roberts & Peter Roseblade.

On Friday evening Dave Hoare, Martin Roberts & Peter Roseblade won their Triples semi-final against a four from Whitethorn BC. Unfortunately in the other triple semi Graham Cross, John Carter & Rob Dempster lost. In the singles Brian Todd managed to win his singles semi by beat this year’s county champion Glen Williams 21-10.

On Sunday morning the men’s team reached the county north divisional final of the club league by beating Letchworth Conservative Club on Sunday morning. They now face now St.Ippolyts in the final this coming Sunday morning at Riverain bowls club.

At North Herts Women’s finals day Baldock ladies Wendy Goodyear, Rose Castle, Sue Bard-Bodek & Shirley Page lost their fours final by one shot.

Club News 22nd August 2016
The men’s team have reached the final of the Cairns Cup competition with a narrow win over Whitethorn.

North Herts Women’s semi-finals were held at the Baldock club and there was home success in the Pairs and Fours and also in the Challenge shield.

Only one friendly match this week against North Mimms produced a win by 14 shots, 83 to 59. Top team was Diane Pearce, Doug Nicholls and Dave Turner.

No luck for Brian Todd and Mike Parsons who lost in the first round of the final stages of the National Senior Pairs at Leamington by the narrowest of margins, 22 shots to 23 on an extra end.

Club News 1st August 2016
The week started badly for Baldock when they lost to Royston in the Divisional Final of the County Team Championship. 2 rinks did well, drawing on one and losing by 1 on the other but the deciding factor was a heavy loss on the third rink.

The club recovered from this loss by winning their last match in the County League against Howard Garden by 50 shots to 20, winning on both rinks for a 6 points to nil result. This puts Baldock in the Divisional semi-final on August 28th.

Further success on Friday in the Cairns Cup where a good win over Holwell put the club through to the semi-final stages.

Saturday saw the club take on Garston in the County Top Ten but, with only the pairs returning a winning score, the match was lost by 3 disciplines to 1. Garston went on to win the title in the afternoon.

Two weekend friendlies had mixed results. On Saturday Baldock lost to Beech Hill but on Sunday had a convincing win over Stevenage.

At the County Finals on Sunday Devon Cooper had convincing win over Rachel Tremlett to win the junior singles.

Club News 25th July 2016
Not a good week for the Baldock club. It started with a narrow win against Norton in the County league by 6 shots but only one winning rink for an overall win by 4 points to 2 but then got worse.
 
In National Top Club Baldock lost to Garston by the narrow margin of 3 disciplines to 2.
 
In the Tony Alcock Trophy for 2 mixed rinks of players over 60 Baldock lost to Rosedale by one shot, 35 to 36.
 
The East Beds League teams fared better with wins for the B and C teams but a loss for the A Team.
 
Only one weekend match where Baldock lost to Henlow Park by 64 shots to 77, Baldock’s top rink being Warwick Brotherton, Graham Wells, Graham Woods and Dave Turner.

Club News 18th July 2016
The week started off well with a convincing win for the men against Aston in the County League, winning on both rinks for a 6-0 result.

It improved on Friday with a win in the County Top ten competition against Bishops Stortford winning 3 disciplines and losing just one. The club will now meet Garston in the semi-final.

Then things took a downward turn. In the Ladies Top Ten they lost to Bushey with some good wins but a heavy defeat in one discipline. Then the men followed suit losing to Garston in the National 2 Fours by 37 shots to 41.

Saturday friendly match saw a good win against Welwyn & District by 78 shots to 59.

Club News 11th July 2016
In the National Top Club Baldock beat Datchworth by 4 disciplines to 1 losing only the 2 wood singles.

Further success came in the National Tony Alcock Trophy for Over 60 Mixed rinks with a win over Barton-le-Cley by 7 shots.

In the County League Baldock beat Whitethorn on both rinks to record a 6-0 victory.

In other County events Rob Dempster, Joe Moorley and Peter Roseblade are through to the 4th round of the County singles whilst Brian Todd and Mike Parsons have reached the quarterfinal of the County Pairs.

The weekend friendly matches had mixed results. On Saturday they were beaten by Biggleswade St Andrews by 82 shots to 65 but returned to winning ways on Sunday with aa 8 shot win away at Bishops Stortford.

Club News 8th July 2016
Tuesday July 12th we have the quarterfinals of the Men’s County Pairs starting at 6pm.
We won’t know who is playing until this Saturday.
Friday July 15th we have the Ladies County Benevolent triples starting at 10.00am.
We have a couple of teams in this.
Volunteers to serve tea, coffee etc would be appreciated from  9.00am. Let me know if you can help.
Tuesday August 9th we are hosting a Play Bowls Day for around 20 members of the Baldock 41 club.
It will be a bit like Open Day because they are all new to the game.

All helpers appreciated both on the green to give them advice and in the kitchen as we will be providing a ploughman’s supper.

Club News 4th July 2016
The good run continues. The ladies won their latest match in the  National Top Club by beating Sele Farm by 2½ matches to 1½ and move into the 5th round.
 
The men also had a good win beating Harpenden on both rinks in the National 2 Fours.
 
The weekend matches saw two more wins for the club. On Saturday they travelled to Sandy Town and won by 86 shots to 69, the top triple being Tony Snowball, Diane Pearce and Brian Griffiths.
 
On Sunday they beat Buntingford in a home match by 138 shots to 83, the top triple being Warwick Brotherton, Rose Varney and captain Mike Wintrip.
 
In the East Beds League there were wins for the B and C teams but the A team lost to Holwell.
 
Club News 27th June 2016
The results continue apart from one blip where the club lost to St Ippolytts in the men’s county league. The ladies managed to win in their match.
Elsewhere the club progressed to the quarter final of the men’s Top Ten competition by beating Hemel Hempstead and will now play Bishops Stortford. In the county club team championship Baldock will now play Royston in the divisional final having beaten Three Horseshoes to reach this stage. In the National Two Fours Baldock will now play Harpenden in the 4th round and in the National Top Club Baldock beat Bishops Stortford and will now play Datchworth.
The ladies have reached the 4th round of the National Top Club and will now play Sele Farm whilst in the Tony Allcock Trophy the mixed Over 60’s team will now play Barton-le-Cley in the 4th round.
Locally Baldock progressed to the second round of the Cairns Cup by beating Riverain and will now play Holwell.
At the weekend there were two good wins, beating Fairfield on Saturday by 99 shots to 85 and Luton West End on Sunday by 100 shots to 65.

Club News 13th June 2016
Another good week for the Baldock club as both the men and the ladies won their latest round in the County Top Ten competition. The men had a convincing win over Hemel Hempstead winning all four disciplines whereas the ladies had to settle for a two each draw in the match against Bishops Stortford but a superior shot difference.
 
The ladies had further success when Wendy Goodyear, Val Bingley and Jan Turner reached the semi-final of the County triples.
 
The Saturday match against St Neots was lost by 97 shots to 102 with the top rink being Derek Slaney, Linda Albone and Mike Wintrip. Mike Wintrip made it a double by being on the top rink with Diane Pearce, John Baker and Graham Cross on Sunday against Whitethorn where Baldock won on all four rinks by 94 shots to 52.
 
The East Beds League teams had a mixed week with wins for the A and C teams but a loss for a weakened B team.

Club News 6th June 2016
An extremely busy week for the Baldock club. It started with a win by 3 disciplines to 2 over old rivals Royston in the National Top Club competition. The followed a more emphatic win in the County knockout cup against Riverain winning on all 3 rinks.
In the County league Baldock beat Three Horseshoes by 5 points to 1 winning on one rink and drawing on the other.
The ladies joined in the successful week beating Riverain by 3 matches to 1 in the County Top Ten.
The weekend friendly matches saw the club win both. On Saturday they beat Harpenden by 120 shots to 62 with the top rink being Doreen Blowey, Warwick Brotherton, Rob Dempster and Roger Neville. Sunday saw Royston as the visitors with another win by 117 shots to 118 the top triple being Mary Gibbons, Malcolm Bartlett and Bill Baxter.

THREE TIMES WINNERS
A much better week for the Baldock club. On Wednesday the A team in the Tony Alcock trophy beat Holwell and on Friday the Men’s team in the County Top Ten beat Ware. The week finished with the Men’s A team beating Royston in the National 2 Fours competition. Each match was close, all being decided on shots difference.

The weekend showed mixed results. On Saturday the club hosted Hitchin but ended up on the losing side by 79 shots to 91 but reversed the result against Ware on Sunday winning by 106 shots to 87.

The East Beds league matches saw wins for the A and C teams whilst the B team lost to league leaders Holwell.

Club News 24th May 2016
A mixed week for the Baldock club. During the week the B team in the Tony Alcock trophy lost to Royston and the B team in the National 2 Fours lost to Holwell.
However the A team in the National 2 Fours progressed by beating Whitethorn and the Ladies won their Top Club match against Royston on shot difference having drawn the ties 2 each.
The East Beds League teams also had a mixed week with the A team losing, the B team winning and the C team drawing.
Saturday’s match at Sandy Conservatives gave Baldock o good win by 108 shots to 86, Baldock’s top rink being Brian Leadley, Ken Starkey, Brian Griffiths and Mike Parsons.
